A Sizzix Flip-its thank you card/tutorial

This morning I spent some time playing with my new Stephanie Barnard line of dies from Sizzix and thought I would share the step outs for it.

I began with the Majestic Flip-it Die. The Flip-it dies have a metal opening in the center designed for the optional addition of a Movers & Shapers. For this card I decided to use the Three Window Pane die in the center.

After running the die combination through my Big Shot, along with some Core'dinations cardstock, this is what I had. Note that you will see both sides of the paper used when using these dies. When cutting the image the side placed down with be what you see on the sides and the side of the paper that is placed up with be the center (flip) image. When folding the design the widest edge will be on the left.

When using the Flip-its dies I typically like to cover the side pieces with patterned paper. The easiest way I have found for doing that it to run it though the Big Shot using the same die. I line the edge of the patterned paper up with the first score line and run it thorough the machine. Then I rotate the die, line up with the first score line and cut the second side.

This makes two perfectly fitting pieces.

This particular Flip-its die has a coordinating Framelits die as well. I wanted to have a double sided image for my card with a white side showing on the front and a blue side on the inside. I could cut each one separately and the adhere them together but I am not the best at lining things up. So, I have a little trick for perfect alignment every time. First I cut the image with white card stock (my front color). Next I adhere it to the color I wanted on the back, blue in this case. Then I placed the die over the white image and ran it back through he machine again. The die fits perfectly over the image I had already cut and there is just enough height that the cutting edge will slide snugly in place.  Now, f there are any edges that aren't perfectly aligned they are trimmed when I run it though my Big Shot the second time around.

I then added the frame to the inside of the card. The blue will now show on the inside and white on the outside.

I added the patterned papers that I had previously cut. Here is a look at the outside with the white showing through the squares.

Next I stamped snowflakes from my Simple Snowflakes stamp set in the window panes using my Nautical Clearsnap ink.

I stamped a banner from the Banners 2 stamp and die set with Cornflower Ink and cut it out with the matching die. Some people prefer to cut out the shape and then stamp. I find that I am better able to center the image if I stamp, line the die up around the image, tape it in place and then cut it out.

Once cut, I added a greeting from the Simple Snowflakes stamp set

The flip panel seemed like it needed a bit more dressing up at this posint so I decided to add some twine. To do this I began by placing a piece of Scor-Tape in the center of the front panel. I attached the end of my twine there.

I then wrapped the twine around the panel several times and secured the other end to the Scor-Tape.

I tied another piece of twine through a button and covered the ends with that.

For the inside I cut another small piece of twine and knotted it around the wrapped twine.

Here is a look at the closed card:

And the when opened it looks like this. I added a greeting from the Simple Hearts stamp set and left room for a personal note above it.

This a a fun interactive card to make and with the Flip-it Dies there are many creative possibilities.
