Create it Simply Sketchy Sunday

As many of you may know, way back in 2007 I started a blog called Card Positioning Systems (CPS for short). At the time it was one of the only card sketch blogs available and had many followers.  The blog had a new sketch each week with cards from some of the industries top designers sharing their creations. There were even sponsored prizes each week donated by various companies.

In 2007, this new idea also lead to the first of three published books and a monthly sketch for CardMaker magazine. After a few years the idea of card sketches began to catch on and blogs were appearing left and right following this same format.

By 2012 there where many sketch blogs available and I felt with the abundance of sketches coupled with the fact of how time consuming it all had become I decided it was time to move in other directions.

Now six years later, there are still sketches left and right. But, things have changed greatly. My kids are much older and independent, two are even married and on their own. While I still love creating, I have much more free time and a lot less design team commitments now. So, I thought each Sunday I would share some of the sketches I've created over the years. I'll also include some of the cards that went along with them...and even new designs on occasion! It's sort of a walk down memory lane if you will. This is a time for looking back at friends I've made, some still creating masterpieces, some moving on to other interests. A time for reminiscing about products I loved, and many of which I still use on a regular basis.  A time for being thankful for the past and looking forward to the future.

With all that said, here is the first of my Sketch Sunday sketches. This sketch was CPS #170. The sketch came from June 2010 and was sponsored by My Favorite Things stamp company.

Here are two of the cards that were featured that week. The first card was my card. Back then I had trouble coloring images to like I wanted. But, I loved paper piecing so that's what I did! I'm thinking I need to try that again in the very near future!! You'll also notice the die-cut felt which I still do all of the time. And my trademark three rhinestones that were on pretty much every thing I created...

My good friend, Jeanne Streiff, is still active in the industry and as you will see below has no trouble when it comes to coloring an image! I've always been a fan of her ability to color as well as ink sponging. This card is no exception and the visual triangle created with the pearls is spot on.

If you were a stamper back in the days when My Favorite Things started you probably remember them as the company with "the headless women". I was visiting the site the other day and seriously had to talk myself out of a major shopping spree!  While there aren't any headless women I found familiar favorites like the Pure Innocence line. That reminded me of the card below from another sketch..still paper piecing but adding a little marker in there. Still has those 3 dots too...

And then I'm pretty much in love with everything in the Birdie Brown line.
Oh. My. Gosh.
Dragons.
Gnomes.
Farm Animals.
Unicorns.
even a Yeti...

Yep, I wanted to buy them all!!

So, anyway, just thought I'd share my blast from the past today and hope you will stop by again next week for another "Sketchy Sunday". And if you make a card using this week I'd love to see it!! You can share using any of the social media platforms below or as we used to do way back in 2007...leave me a comment! Happy creating!
